How to Properly Raid

Raiding has one main goal, and all I will discuss in this guide is in that effort: to capture resources. Well discuss going after both Gold and Elixir in this guide, as they are nearly identical when trying to steal them. Generally gold is more valuable to players, as it is easier to spend (instantly on Walls, or on defenses) than elixir (limited to offensive buildings and units).

Raiding lets you augment your income with quite literally limitless resources. The amount of gold and elixir that is available for you to steal is limited only by your skill, and your time investment. But just note that you lose about 20 trophies every time you fail to get the Town Hall.

The Ideal Raid

The ideal raid deploys as few troops as possible, and targets whatever resources that are easy to steal only, skipping better-protected storage or mines.

The ideal raid has two main success factors. First, and what I'm sure you already know, is the amount you can steal. That is what were here for, after all. Secondly, and just as important but often overlooked, is your investment to get those resources. This means both the actual cost of the units you deploy when raiding, and also the time it will take you to rebuild all of them.

Don't believe that unit costs and build time matter?

Take these two raids as examples:
Example Raid 1 Example Raid 2
Gold Stolen 150,000 15,000
Elixir Stolen 150,000 15,000
Goblins deployed 20 2
Archers deployed 46 2
Barbarians deployed 20 -
Giants deployed 18 -
Healers Deployed 1 -
Wall Breakers Deployed 4 -
Notes
An example of an all-out attack, using one of my favorite army compositions. An example of picking off just 1 full Elixir Collector and 1 Gold Mine, and ignoring the rest because they are protected.

Both are nice raids, right? Now
Which attack was more effective as a raid?

Example 1's army costs around 55,000 elixir (depending on exact unit levels), while Example 2's army costs a maximum of 600 elixir. This means the net total profit (gold + elixir) was ~145,000 for Example 1 and ~29,400 for Example 2. Clearly, Example 1 gains more total resources However:

Example 1's army takes a total of 5990 seconds to train, or 1.3 hours total*. Example 2 army takes a total of only 110 seconds to train. This means that while the player who used Example 1 is sitting around waiting for their army to finish, a player using Example 2 will be out raiding again, and again, and... This does not just mean a player doing Example 2 is less bored, it means Example 2 will actually have a much higher income per hour.

Note: This is the total time to build; the actual elapsed time to build this army is that number divided by the number of available Barracks, likely either 3 or 4.

Ill prove that for you:

Assuming 3 minutes to find a match (for both players), Example 1 will attack once every 28 minutes. During the same 28 minute period, Example 2 can attack 9 times, gaining a total of 264,600, compared to the 145,000 stolen by Example 1. Example 1 gains 310,000 resources per hour, and Example 2 gains 567,000 resources per hour.

While I used made-up numbers for this example, this has been proven before by both myself and other players. Lots of little raids will be more profitable than a few large, all-out attacks. There is another factor at play as well: Little raids are less vulnerable to failure: your total investment is low, and you can just abandon the attack with little loss if needed. Finally, doing lots of little attacks is simply more interesting than sitting around for 25 or more minutes waiting for your army to finish training.

I only attack bases with 200k of gold and elixir each so I don't encounter the problem of using too many resources. My army consists of 50 gobs, 20 archers, the rest giants. Once the defenses are held up in attacking the giants, the gobs just bash through all of the mines and get you tons of resources.

This is an old(er) guide, but I feel obligated to say that, in principle, this is a great guide. The math makes sense. However, it's not realistic to use that amount of troops. I usually Barch when I'm raiding, using 55 Barbs and 90 Archers. That is between 12,000 and 16,000 elixer depending on your level. Training time takes between 10-20 minutes, depending on if you use all troops and if you queue up troops before you go raiding. Say you get 100,000 of each resource per raid. If you use all troops every raid, that's an income of about 89,000 elixer every 10-20 minutes, or about 356,000 elixer an hour. Not bad, I'd say. It's a lot more if you conserve troops, as this guide suggests doing. So, in essence, this guide it extremely helpful. Following it to the letter is a bit impractical, but the core idea of troop conservation and choosing which base to raid is invaluable. Thanks for the guide!

Guys, Don't Hate On This Guy, Just Because He Wants To Help Us And Make Us Better At Raiding Doesn't Mean You Have To Rip On Him!
Example: "And I can't believe I misread this, but did you say 2 Archers and 2 Goblins? Get real hun. Even with max troops, the only way you're going to get anything is if the storages/collectors are completely out of range of defenses. I've raided hundreds of inactive bases, and maybe 5 had all the resources out for free. You can't expect to find these bases every time you go to raid. So no. I call it off. This guide is a lie. Just like cake." That's An Example Of What I Just Said. Now, Thank You Kind Sir For Making This Guide, It Helped Me A Lot. And As For You Rude People, Do Something Else Besides Ripping On People That Want To Help Us! Good Day.

Yes, but there's a factor of "Look what I found" in the loot raiding process. There's nothing to brag about if you come off with 15,000 resources. People won't waste their time to get that small amount, while rather wait for bigger fish to arise. I personally love finding big raids, and whenever I do, it's an instant 'Share Replay' to brag about it. Most players don't and won't take the time to look at it mathematically. And you can't forget trophies, too. With Example 1, you can actually win a raid, and come off with decent loot. With example 2, there's a very slim chance you'll leave with trophies. And we all know that after Silver 1, the loot starts to drop. So, good guide, but you should consider some other contributing factors that may alter your results.

Is this sub 200 farming cause you kind of need to maintain trophies when farming. Resources are more valuable but you need to maintain trophies.

I've read this guide somewhere else, don't just copy what other people are saying. I agree with Billy, you are not always going to find full collectors outside of bases and you will lose a lot of trophies doing this. Attack 1 will allow you to keep staying in the money-making range while Attack 2 will bring you down where the average loot is 25,000 gold and 20,000 elixir. What a fail, not-so-eliteplayer7. >:-(

While this isn't the best plan (For me) I normally rise up in rank by a bit, using Giants, archers, wall breakers, etc. and get to a decent rank. Then, I go for either max goblins or goblins/archers mixed. I either look for a while for one of those AFK bases, where there is A LOT of loot in the collectors, or I find an easy base with good loot that I can easily get into. I normally do this, then I drop down in rank by quite a bit, then I repeat the first step by using giants and whatever then rise in rank. It works for me nicely.

I raid this way but I usually take 15 archers and 15 goblins and I just attack defense bases with outlying pumps and mines. I can net usually around 30k of each resource this way very quickly and it doesn't take long or cost much for the archers and goblins. You do lose a ton of trophies though.

Example 2 is not very reliable. Particularly when not many people have a collector out cold and then even less chance to find that that collector is full. Also when you take out two collectors you obviously dont win so then your losing trophies and people on the lower troph level that you will be at will not have 15000 in each. I dont think that example 2 will work. Example 1 could though but it depends on your skill lvl with attacking.

You can't really gain anything more than 300 gold-elixir with a 2 Archers and 2 Goblins attack since the defenses are going to get each unit with 1 hit.
Example 1 is better because you can win trophies (when you can make sure that you know that you can win this attack) and SO MUCH resources at the same time. Instead of the Example 2 which will get you a maximum of 300 gold-elixir each 1m 40s.

    Example 1 attack (after 1h): About 150000 gold-elixir.
Example 2 attack (after 1h): About 18000 gold -elixir.

So which is better people? THINK MORE THAN 3 TIMES BEFORE YOU REACT AND CALCULATE RANDOMLY IN YOUR MIND!
